Joint R&D projects with partners
The acronym EDFIRE stands for Event Driven Film Restoration. The R&D project started May 2019. Together with the Austrian company HS-Art, well-known for their high-end film & video restoration suite Diamant, the EDFIRE research team will develop new technology to automate and streamline the restoration and correction of film and video defects based on sensoric data generated by Cube-Tec’s migration solutions.
An advanced nitrate film restoration project was used as a probative proof-of-concept for the new film inspection tool QUADRIGA•VersionCompare.
The DFF - Deutsches Filminstitut & Filmmuseum in Frankfurt, Germany, preserves about 27,000 print and pre-print elements. As anyone involved in film restoration will know only too well, no two elements of a single film are identical. Surviving elements must therefore be very carefully examined and compared in order to reach a final decision about which to use as source for duplication, whether by analogue or digital means. Can QUADRIGA automation significantly ease the inspection work?

"Expert Systems for long-term Preservation and Restoration of Motion Picture Film":
CineXPRES has researched and developed new technologies, methods and expert systems for automating the long-term digital preservation and restoration of archived films.
AVEROS is a European research and development project under the direction of Cube-Tec. In AVEROS a robust cloud service for the high-quality and largely automatic restoration of video files is in development. The service is planned to be commercialized as a flexible white-label service.

This national R&D project is a joint corporate research project of Institut für Rundfunktechnik (IRT) and Cube-Tec International. The goal of this project is the development of a cloud based software prototype for B2B applications. This cloud service is intended to validate IMF packages („Interoperable Master Format”) for standard conformance and to automatically correct them in case of any detected issues.
DAVID – Digital AV Media Damage Prevention and Repair
In the European research project DAVID Cube-Tec engineers have worked under the lead of Joanneum Research on methods to analyze, to understand and to develop repair strategies for these extremely diverse error constellations detected in audiovisual archive file collections.

National research project with the Fraunhofer Institute (IIS) for analysis and interpretation of Sony Betacam SP video tape data directly as high-frequency modulated data behind the rotating head drum and processed by software algorithm in a programmable integrated circuit (FPGA) into a high quality video signal. The research results have flowed into the QUADRIGA Video RF.
