Background:
At the European Committee for Standardisation (CEN) the technical body TC457 is responsible for the “Digital preservation of cinematographic works”. For the last 4 years the CEN/TC457 developed the Standard: “Cinema Preservation Package” (CPP) which was published end of last year as EN 17650:2022 “A framework for digital preservation of cinematographic works – The Cinema Preservation Package”. The new standard describes a framework which enables the bundling of existing container formats such as DCP/DCDM, individual images such as DPX file sequences and multiple audio file formats, and many other essence and metadata files into a fully standardised logical package for long-term preservation. The archival package and its associated software include capabilities such as generating hash values automatically and extracting format describing technical metadata.
In addition to the actual standard, a Technical Report and open-source software have been developed.
Experts from the project team will talk about the challenges, goals and overall concept for the new standardised archiving package. Following the presentation, the project team will answer questions.
