To efficiently manage and securely preserve their extensive audiovisual archive comprising over 24,000 audiovisual documents, the Landschaftsverband Westfalen-Lippe (LWL) in Münster (Germany) relies on the Media Asset Management System Cube•Collections from Cube-Tec International. Cube•Collections has been specifically designed to meet the requirements of audiovisual archives as a fully web-based application, eliminating the need for installation and maintenance of any software at user PC workstations. Cube•Collections can be tailored to meet individual customer requirements.
In addition to the classic functions of an archive database, Cube•Collections offers numerous features that enable particularly efficient management and processing of media in AV archives and map the entire archiving process:
- Recording new acquisitions in the media access log
- Documenting individual physical carriers in the media inventory
- Controlling and monitoring the entire digitisation chain
- Descriptive recording and content description
- Capability to describe content scene-by-scene
- Providing digitised media and preview copies
- Online Search Interface adhering to best-practice IT standards

Among these powerful features is an integrated video player that supports adjustable playback speeds ranging from 9 to 60 frames per second, making it suitable for both historical footage and modern digital formats. Additionally, the web player allows users to directly address specific film segments with ease.
The highly efficient search functionality ensures fast and precise content retrieval in live queries. By documenting individual film fragments, film sequences can be systematically tagged and archived with remarkable efficiency.
Special administrator interfaces enable the control and monitoring of digitisation jobs and cataloguing assignments.
The solution offers both internal and public search interfaces, enabling different user groups to access archive data tailored to their specific needs.
Thanks to interfaces for digitisation and indexing tasks, external processes can be seamlessly integrated. The interfaces of Cube-Collections allow optimised collaboration with external products and thus ensure smooth integration into existing systems.
Another highlight is the flexibility of the solution: While Cube•Collections was designed as a powerful standard platform, individual customizations can be made upon request to meet specific requirements.
Additionally, a web interface designed for standalone operation (Cube•Collections OnlineSearch) has been developed. This interface allows the general public to search the media archive online via the Internet and also optionally provides the ability to borrow items.
More information about the separately available online search solution (Cube•Collections OnlineSearch) can be found on our website:
