The JTS was directly following the 50th Annual Conference of the International Association of Sound and Audiovisual Archives (IASA - both being held by the Netherlands Institute for Sound and Vision in Hilversum).

The events were densely packed with the IASA Technical Committee meetings, presentations, talks, posters and so many discussions with colleagues. From the Cube-Tec team Tom Lorenz, Jörg Houpert, Stefan Zachau and Egbert Koppe joined the JTS. Cube-Tec invested in a large product setup to demonstrate live the audio, video and film QC and migration solutions.

Stefan Zachau was busy switching between live presentations of the QUADRIGAVideo workstations with multiple Sony VTRs (all embedded in the sophisticated quality-controlled migration process with QCView inspection) and live demonstrations on QUADRIGAFilm.

Visually most striking was the QUADscan film scanner generating access copies four times as fast as realtime with an extreme gentle film transport.

With its additional sensors the INSPECTIONscan was a highlight in the live demonstration. INSPECTIONscan precisely detects film surface defects using its new visual inspection method based on darkfield illumination. Calibration-Inspector for Film allows to measure and document in detail the transfer behaviour in a fully automatic process.

At the Joint Technical Symposium Jörg Houpert presented two talks, one centered on ethical requirements in audiovisual safeguarding and the other one on technologies for the inspection of film-based materials:

Q&A on Conservation and Restoration Ethics in Digital Times: Refining Ethical Requirements and Ease their Communication by introducing Visual- and Mathematical Models by Jörg Houpert (Cube-Tec International) and Lars Gaustad (Nasjonalbiblioteket / National Library of Norway)

and

Requirements and new technologies for the inspection of photochemical film by Jörg Houpert (Cube-Tec International) and Egbert Koppe (DEFA Foundation)

With all the great discussions and the inspiring impulses from the conference talks this without doubt was a great event and we want to express a big thank you to the organizers for their hard work.
