The Netherlands Institute for Sound and Vision (Beeld & Geluid) has been using QUADRIGAAudio for quite a long time and has recently extended their QUADRIGA with the "Multi-Channel" and "Dual-Direction" options.

We asked Margot Knijn and Tonnie van Els about their experiences with the extension and the cooperation with Cube-Tec in general.

You can find the short interview below. We do hope you will enjoy it!

You have been working with QUADRIGAAudio for many years. What was the reason to extend your existing system with the "Multi-Channel" and "Dual-Direction" options?

Until recently the majority of the ¼ inch tapes we digitised were professional two track broadcast tapes and had been recorded meeting broadcast standards. Now we are coming across more and more consumer and semi-pro four track ¼ inch tapes. With four track tapes there is a variety of options, often 4 mono tracks or two stereo tracks. Without the QUADRIGA Multi-Channel module we would have to digitise the tape twice (in both directions). With the Multi-Channel module we can digitise all four tracks simultaneously, which is not only time efficient but also means we wear out the equipment less."

In addition, the "Reverser" and "ChannelMapper" functions were added to your DOBBIN system in order to be able to process the existing 4-track audio tapes, which each contain 2 tracks per playback direction. How do the new extensions support you in your daily work?

The track layout of a four-track tape can have many variations. And even the speed can be different within one track. Without the Reverser and ChannelMapper functions it was very time-consuming to make the digitised channels into a logic layout that could be ingested into our archive. Now we can have a four track interleaved file with a single filename and a logic track layout."

What do you like about QUADRIGA in general?

It’s a system that allows us to digitise standardised tapes in an efficient way with an interesting toolset for quality control. The straightforward automated workflow processing delivers results exactly as required, even with complex material like the four-track tapes that we have to handle now."

How is the support of the Cube-Tec team?

We have a good relationship with the Cube-Tec team and a quick response time in the rare cases we run into issues. The team was very helpful in building the new four-track processing workflow: They listened to all our needs and wants and made sure the different modules were correctly installed and worked as needed. We're happy customers."
